Resting Metabolic Rate

Having your metabolism correctly defined is essential to any weight loss or sports weight management program. There are two main factors that are identified through doing a Resting Metabolic Rate test or ‘RMR’. They are:

  • Resting Metabolic Rate: How many calories your body burns at rest, whether you have a fast, medium or slow metabolism.
  • Your Personal Energy Balance: The amount of calories you need to intake to either maintain, gain or lose weight.

By doing an RMR test we can pinpoint your exact daily calorie intake needs at rest and exercise, as well as the percentage of carbohydrates and fats utilised. Most endurance athletes are in a constant state of mild starvation and overtraining forcing the body into a protective state where recovery from training takes much longer. A side effect of this is that muscle starts to be broken down as a fuel, meaning your training is essentially wasted.

A RMR takes approximately 30 minutes and gives you an accurate guide to plan nutritional diets and the ability to succeed in managing an ideal weight for your sport and lifestyle. Check out the video below for a detailed explanation of the RMR procedure.

It is vital to know your bodies calorie needs so you can fuel it exactley right!
