Testing
VO2max? is a measure of your capacity for aerobic work and, thus, can be a predictor of your potential as an endurance athlete. Of course, there are other factors that come into play: your training, your genes, your body weight, your muscle volume, etc. Your age is also a factor, as most people see a decline of 1% a year in VO2max after age 50. Still, VO2max is a commonly accepted measure of cardio respiratory fitness.
Technically, VO2max stands for maximal oxygen uptake and refers to the amount of oxygen your body is capable of utilizing in one minute. The units are: ml O2/kg-min meaning milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute. Accurate measurement of VO2max generally requires the collection and analysis of inhaled and exhaled gases during exercise to exhaustion.
Metabolic Rate Analysis
All athletes would benefit from having an ideal weight, whatever the personal goal.
The more mass that you carry, the slower you go, or adversely, the more energy (calories) you put out into moving that mass. However, defining what is the correct weight for you is a minefield of often very conflicting information.
Having your metabolism correctly defined is essential to any weight loss or sports weight management program. The metabolic rate testing, will give you precise data including what is called your Personal Energy Balance (P.E.B). This is how many calories you burn in everyday lifestyle activities, resting, and exercise.
As oxygen is needed to break down food you eat for metabolism, it gives you the most accurate representation of your metabolism.?
After it is done, youll know your :
- Resting Metabolic Rate: How many calories your body burns at rest, whether you have a fast, medium or slow metabolism
- Your Personal Energy Balance: how many calories your body needs in a 24 hour period just to maintain itself at its current weight, or to loose weight, if desired.
Other factors influencing your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
- Mass: the more you weigh, the higher your RMR.
- Body composition: the more muscle you have, the higher your RMR. Muscle burns up to 4 times as many calories at rest.
- Gender: Males generally have more muscle mass than women, and have a higher RMR a cause of this.
- Genetics: Your unique human genetics that you were born with affect up to 30% of your RMR.
- Medications: Can increase or decrease your RMR.
- Hormones: Stress hormones in particular will affect your RMR.
Sports Performance Testing
Sports Performance VO2max test: Find out your exact VO2max and Lactate Threshold (L.T). VO2max testing measures the actual amount of oxygen that your body takes in and actually uses, in the blood/oxygen exchange. Basically, the more oxygen that your blood transports to your muscle cells, the better you can perform.
Your VO2max is genetically (and normally proportionally) determined. However, with the correct and accurate data, this VO2max level can be improved by correct training in certain effort, heart rate or power zones. A VO2max test will also show the L.T. Briefly, the L.T is the level of exercise intensity of which beyond, the body can no longer provide adequate oxygen to the muscles. At this point the blood lactate is no longer buffered sufficiently. Knowing your unique L.T is valuable information as L.T is very trainable. In following correct and dedicated training, your body can develop a higher threshold for the Lactate build up.
The test will provide all of the data that is vital to training smarter and efficiently. In addition, a Cardio Coach test will also measure how many calories are burned during a workout at every exercise heart rate level. Necessary information to have in order to pre-plan your nutrition intake during training and racing! (At the conclusion of the testing, youll have a full written report of your results, with heart rate zones established from your L.T).
Metabolism Analysis
This test is based on the amount and concentration of gasses you exhale during the test. This is analyzed by the unit to determine your rate of caloric resting expenditure as well as your rate of metabolism. The analysis will indicate the amount of calories you burn, allowing to plan your requirements in calories during the different periodization of training and racing, as well as off season. An explained printed out report will be yours at the end of the analysis, with all your questions answered. Youll also receive advice concerning the correct amount of calories in Carbohydrates, Protein and essential fats that you need to train and race with success. Essential & precise information for serious and successful training and racing nutrition planning.
